Beef Taco in Flour Tortillas and Cabbage Slaw

These were fine but nothing special. I added some garlic powder to the fish and we served the tacos with slices of avocado. Probably won't make again as we have better fish taco recipes but I'm glad I tried it.

Just what I was looking for. Loved the low fat slaw.

Great basic recipe but tweaked it just a little. Added a little mayo and jalepeno and extra lime to the slaw. My none fish eater said she would eat this again. I think the slaw made it.

Prepped slaw to directions, adding about a teaspoon, maybe more, of finely diced jalapeno. Served with CL's blackened baja tacos, subbing halibut for the tilapia.

The slaw was good, but the fish needs some doctoring up.

Great Starter Recipe. We modified it a bit also. Seasoned Fish "8 individual packed tilapia fillets cut in half long ways" with 1 Onion & 1 Garlic Bouillon Cube, 2 tables spoons of Dark Chili Powder, 2 table spoons of fine cumin, 1/2 cup of green seasoning, 2 small limes, 1 medium lemon let sit for at least an hour. Use 2 Chipotle Bouillon cubes, mayo and a touch of 2% milk to thin it out for sauce. Slaw we used 1 red cabbage, 1 red onion, cilantro, green onions, cherry tomatoes cut up, olive oil, & salt. 2 adults & 3 teens and the only thing left was a little bit of slaw... Awesome Idea for good healthy dinner. We did corn and flower tortillas.

This is a good basic recipe, but the fish was a little bland with just the chili powder. I added garlic powder, cumin, cayenne and a bit of salt & pepper. Also blended some mayo with chipotle powder as a sauce to sprinkle over the filled taco.

This was good, or at least a good starting point. The slaw was a hit, especially with additional lime juice. The fish was good, but needed something more, a little 'zip' of some kind. Will have to play with it a bit.

I add several finely diced fresh jalapeno and chili peppers to the slaw, cilantro and a couple Tbsp of lowfat sour cream before squeezing the lime juice and then toss - delicious. We've also made these with shrimp - outstanding.

We really love this recipe. My DH can't eat fresh onions, so I just served some sliced red ones on the side. I like the corn tortillas but DH likes the sturdier flour ones. The second time I made the tacos I used bagged angel hair sliced gabbage and baked two Gorton's potato crunch fish fillets, omitting the chili powder. What really made the tacos pop was the addition of some feta cheese which is served at our local Fuzzy's Taco Shop. With some leftover slaw, I think we'll have another serving tomorrow. I definately will make it again and would serve some avacado on the side (since my DH can't eat it),

This recipe is a slam dunk success. I am doing Weight Watchers and my husband is not. I loved the crunch of the slaw and some new flavors. He asked for seconds! I had the remaining serving for lunch the next day and couldn't wait to dig back in! Highly recommend. Might add just a little more punch to the tilapia flavoring with some cumin or red pepper flakes, but great exactly the way it's written.

These turned out very very tasty. I made a few changes. I added cumin and pepper to the fish marinade. Added some southwestern salsa to the taco prior to eating. Increased the lime juice and added rice wine vinegar to the slaw. Very satisfying.

This was delicious--simple and fast to prepare, and impressive! I did not read the directions thoroughly and cut the fish into bite size pieces before frying. But it worked out fine. The slaw was delicious. I am a total fan now of lime juice. I never realized what a nice, fresh, tart flavor it imparts--way better than seasoned vinegar, but the same type of impact. I had slaw leftover and ate it as a side salad the following night. Very, very good!

Second time I've made these delicious fish tacos. . . husband I just love them! The slaw really makes these tacos so special. I didn't even marinate the fish but did add some Cholulu seasoning to the fish with a squeeze of lime juice to make the fish a bit more flavorful. Just cooked the fish on my grill pan. Also added avocado to the slaw and think next time I will add some chopped serrano chile for a bit more heat. Served with Bush's Texas Ranchero Beans which made for a quick dinner and some watermelon. Would make these for a casual dinner with friends along with some Sangria or Margaritas.

I really liked these tacos, but I didn't like the slaw on the side. Next time, I would cut the slaw in half. I served with spicy corn relish, and it was yummy!

I made some changes: left out the tomatoes in the slaw but added in some extra spices (salt, pepper, chili powder, and a splash of white wine vinegar). For the fish, I added spices to the marinade (garlic powder, ground cumin, lime juice, olive oil, salt, pepper). I also grilled the fish. We topped the tacos with the slaw, some shredded red cabbage, chopped tomatoes, chopped avocado and a squeeze of fresh lime juice, Mexican queso cheese and some chopped cilantro.

Our family loves this recipe! Quick, easy, and complex mix of flavors. Best fish tacos ever!

I knew this one would be a little bland for me so I added avocado and cumin to the slaw and I added some chipotle chile powder & squeezed a bit of lime on (before cooking) to the fish for a little heat & flavor! I plan to make these often!!! Very yummy!

Great meal. Fish needs a little more kick or something else to it. I added red cabbage to the slaw and it was delightful. Even my husband asked for more!!! We will eat again and again. Do different things with the fish, panko breading would be nice texture.

I really enjoyed the recipe, the coleslaw was very good. My husband felt as thought it lacked something wasn't enough for him, but will definatley make again! I couldn't find corn tortillas so used whole wheat flax wraps.

Loved the cabbage slaw. Next time I will add some other spices to the tilapia to give it a liitle bit more flavor. I could eat this once a week. It is so good and healthy.

My husband and I love this dish. We make it once a week, and I never get sick of it but instead look forward to it every time. We make it as written, but there's no need to measure everything precisely. If we have lots of extra tomatoes, we throw more in. We always make double the slaw. We only use a tiny bit of fish in our tacos - the slaw is the star. The next day we have slaw sandwiches on multigrain with lowfat mayo. Soooo good! Unbelievable that something so healthy could taste this good and be one of my all time favorite dishes.

Awesome recipe. This is so easy to put together in a flash! We have this about once a week!

This recipe is true hit with my family. I did change the lime juice 1/4 cup. Also works excellent with grilled chicken. Yummy

Very quick and tasty. I don't even modify the recipe much, which is shocking for me. If I don't have time, I don't even make a side dish since this is pretty well balanced with all of the veggies in the slaw.

I love this recipe. It is great for a person watching calories. And it fills me up with only 305 calories.

really light and flavorful. added avocado in the slaw and used flour tortillas because they were what i had on hand. will definitely have again.
03/25/2009
I loved the slaw recipe though I did add diced avocado to it. A stronger tasting fish would serve this recipe better.
